Correlation to State Content Standards
7.2.2: Trace the origins of Islam and the life and teachings of Muhammad, including Islamic teachings on the connection with Judaism and Christianity.
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
1. Review the origins of Islam.
2. Trace the origins of Thanksgiving.
2. Complete missing Islam assignments.
Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.
WHST 4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.
WHST 9. Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
Anticipatory Set (5 min.) Starter Quiz: Students will will take Starter Quiz based on their weekly starter completed this week.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach: Kahoot Quiz: Teacher will explain today's schedule and answer any questions students may have. Students will take a Kahoot quiz based on the origins of Islam. After that students will complete an Edpuzzle discussing the origins of Thanksgiving. Teacher will clarify what thanksgiving really symbolizes.
Guided Practice (x min.)
SDAIE: Progress Monitor: Kahoot/Edpuzzle: Teacher will progress monitor student progress as they complete their Kahoot, Edpuzzle, and missing assignments. Teacher will answer questions students may have with their assignments.
Independent Practice (30 min.)
SDAIE: Metacognition: Islam Kahoot Quiz: Students will take and Islam Quiz reviewing the origins of Islam while playing a Kahoot Game.
SDAIE: Video Clip: Origins of Thanksgiving : Students will complete an Edpuzzle tracing the true origins of Thanksgiving. Students will have to answer four questions within the EdPuzzle.
SDAIE: Metacognition: Islam Missing Assignment: Students will work on any missing assignments they may have dealing with Islam from the last three weeks.
Homework.
EdPuzzle Islam is Born due by Friday at 5 p.m.
Closure (5 min.)
1. Clean up.
2. Take question/comments/announcements
3. Reset Edpuzzle for those needed.
4. Dismiss Class.
