Correlation to State Content Standards
7.1.1. Study the early strengths and lasting contributions of Rome (e.g., significance of Roman citizenship; rights under Roman law; Roman art, architecture, engineering, and philosophy; preservation and transmission of Christianity) and its ultimate internal weaknesses (e.g., rise of autonomous military powers within the empire, undermining of citizenship by the growth of corruption and slavery, lack of education, and distribution of news).
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
1. Identify the problems faced by early Christians.
2. Explain how Christianity spread throughout the Roman Empire.
Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.
WHST 4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.
WHST 9. Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Daily Journals: Students will work on their starter by reading an out of order chunked reading from "This day in History." Students will be tasked to place the events in order of CLAIM, STATEMENT, EVIDENCE, and CONCLUSION.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach/Video Clip: Life and Teachings of Jesus FN: Teacher will lecture about the life and teachings of Jesus. Lectures and clarifications will take place after students are given time to complete portion of the section on thier own. Teacher will show a video clip that goes along with reading and discuss the Table Talk Question from the video.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Life and Teachings of Jesus FN Teacher will go over the answers to the Focus notes. Students will correct their notes.
Independent Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: Chunked Reading/Select to Speech/Focus Notes:The Life and Teachings Jesus: Students will complete Focus Notes on the life and teachings of Jesus. The section has been chunked into four passages dealing with four question, one question per section. Students will have to read the passage and take down notes. They will be prompted by a time set by the teacher to complete those sections before teacher lectures on it and they go over their answers. Process will repeat till all four sections are done. (Finish from yesterday)
SDAIE: Sentence Stems/Video Clip/Video Based Questions: Persecutions of Christians: Students will complete a Video Based Question dealing with how Christians began to be persecuted for their believes. Students will begin by completing four sentence stems using the questions. Then they will independently watch a video clip that explains how and why it was done while completing their four questions.
SDAIE: Video Clip/CER/QuickWrite:Christianity Spreads: Students will will watch a video of how Christianity spread throug the eactions of Paul. As they watch the video students are to write down three peices of evidence that will be enought to answer the QuickWrite writing prompt. Studetns will then use one of the evidence that they gathered to complete their CER writing prompt using a CLAIM, STATEMENT, EVIDENCE, and CONCLUSION.
Homework.

Students will have to identify three ways in which it happened.
