Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Today I am learning about the the Bermuda Triangle by:
Identifying the location of the Bermuda Triangle
Explaining why it is considered to be a mysterious place.
Creating a theory to validate the claims by plotting known dissapearnces.
Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.

Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
SDAIE: Chunked Reading/5 W's: Starter: Students will read a chunked reading from the History channels website dealing with "This Day in History" and identify the 5 W's.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach: Bermuda Triangle: Teacher will front load students with the historical events that have made their way into folklore about the Bermuda Triangle. Teacher will demonstrate how to use KAMI and plot points on the map. Teacher will direct students to identify the Bermuda Triangle by mapping it on the map in their graphic organizer.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Latitude & Longitude: Teacher will go over the answers to the plotting of the disappearances of vessels into the Bermuda triangle. Will also go over the answers to first two question on the Graphic Organizer.
Independent Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: Video Clip/Latitude & Longitude: Bermuda Triangle: Students will watch a video clip that introduces the folklore of the Bermuda Triangle. The video will also inform students the location of the Bermuda Triangle along with the folklore behind the disappearances. Students will plot vessels on a map and then create a hypothesis determine the validity of the Bermuda Triangle.
SDAIE: QuickWrite: Bermuda Triangle Hypothesis: Students will analyze the information they have gathered and make a hypothesis about the validity of the Bermuda Triangle. Students will only base their hypothesis based on the data they have gathered and nothing more.
SDAIE: TPS/Visuals: Latitude and Longitude: Students will use a map with 10 plot points and be able to identify the latitude and longitude and given latitude and longitude will have to identify the point. (per. 6 and 7 only)

Lesson Modifications for GATE, RSP, and EL Students
EL: Projector (visuals), questioning, chunking, cognitive words, repetition, translation in Spanish.
RSP: Projector (visuals), questioning, modified assignments, check for understandings.
GATE: Require answers that will demonstrate depth and complexity of fertilization.
