7.7.1: Study the locations, land forms, and climates of Mexico, Central America, and South America and their effects on Mayan, Aztec, and Incan economies, trade, and development of urban societies.

Anticipatory Set (3 min):
Daily Starter: Students will read short passage of events that happened on "This Day in History" and identify the 5 W's.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Video Clips/Direct Teach: Aztec Achievements: Teacher will show video clips that highlight major achievements made by the Aztecs that include architectural, agricultural, obtaining fresh water, and the expansion of their empire. After the video is played teacher will direct teach and provide further explanation of the achievements.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS/Think out-loud: Aztec Achievement : Teacher will will go over the answers to their Video Cornell Notes.
Independent Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: Think Aloud/Cornell Notes/Video Clips: Aztec Achievements : Students will complete a series of Video based Cornell notes that deal with the Aztec achievements. The Cornell notes will be guided by think aloud hints provided faintly on the Cornell Notes to guide students learning and obtaining the correct notes. Students will then answer the Environmental essential question and make a connection with their notes.

Closure (2 min.)

EL: Projector (visuals), questioning, chunking, cognitive words, repetition, translation in Spanish.
RSP: Projector (visuals), questioning, modified assignments, check for understandings.
GATE: Require answers that will demonstrate depth and complexity of fertilization.
