Correlation to State Content Standards
7.2.2: Trace the origins of Islam and the life and teachings of Muhammad, including Islamic teachings on the connection with Judaism and Christianity.
7.2.4: Discuss the expansion of Muslim rule through military conquests and treaties, emphasizing the cultural blending within Muslim civilization and the spread and acceptance of Islam and the Arabic language.
8.2.6: Enumerate the powers of government set forth in the Constitution and the fundamental liberties ensured by the Bill of Rights.
8.2.3: Evaluate the major debates that occurred during the development of the Constitution and their ultimate resolutions in such areas as shared power among institutions, divided state-federal power, slavery, the rights of individuals and states (later addressed by the addition of the Bill of Rights), and the status of American Indian nations under the commerce clause.

Anticipatory Set (10 min.) Daily Journals: Students will read two excerpts from "This Day in History" and identify the 5 W's (who, what, when, where, why).

8th Grade-SDAIE: Model: Test Procedure: Teacher will go over the test procedures and make sure students logged in are taking the test. Teacher will use Edulastic to ensure students are logged in and can monitor their progress.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Model: Test Procedure: Teacher will go over the test procedures and make sure students logged in are taking the test. Teacher will use Edulastic to ensure students are logged in and can monitor their progress.
Guided Practice (15 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Progress Monitoring: Ratifying the Constitution Test: Teacher will monitor students as they complete their test.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Progress Monitoring: Islam and the Crusades: Teacher will monitor students as they complete their test.
Independent Practice (25 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Metacognition: Ratifying the Constitution: Students will be assessed on the challenges the delegates faced when trying to ratify the Constitution. Also on the workings of the Government and the powers of the first two articles: Legislative and Executive branch.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Metacognition: Islam and the Crusades: Students will be tested on what happened with Islam after Muhammad's death and the origins of the Crusades.
