Life in the Arabian Peninsula

Correlation to State Content Standards

7.2.1. Identify the physical features and describe the climate of the Arabian peninsula, its relationship to surrounding bodies of land and water, and nomadic and sedentary ways of life.

Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)

Students will be able to:

1. Explain how the desert climate of the Arabian Peninsula affected the ways of life of different groups of people.

2. Describe the impact the Arabian Peninsula had being at the crosswords of three continents.

Literacy Standard

RH4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.

RH2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.

Anticipatory Set (4 min.)

Daily Journal: Historical Fact: The Constitution of the United States was written in 1787. It was a second attempt of forming a government after the Articles of Confederation failed. The Constitution is considered a living document and has been amended (changed) 27 times.

Direct Instruction (10 min.)

SDAIE: Cloze Read/Talk To Text: Desert Culture: Teacher and students will read the section Desert culture on pages 85-86. As students finish the reading the teacher will go back use Talk to the Text to help students analyze the text in their Cornell Notes.

Guided Practice (10 min.)

SDAIE: TPS: Vocabulary: Teacher along with the help of students will go over the vocabulary.

SDAIE: TPS: C.Notes: Teacher will go over the answers to the notes students will check and make changes to their answers.

Independent Practice (30 min.)

SDAIE: C.Notes: A Desert Culture: Students will take down Cornell Notes on the three topics discussed in the reading; Physical Features and Climate, Nomads, and Family Life.

SDAIE: TRQ: Crossroads of Three Continents: Students will read the section on page 87 and 88. Students will learn the importance of trade in this area and why it was important. Students will answer 4 questions.

Homework.

EdPUzzle: Video and questions on the introduction of Islam.

Closure (3 min.)

1. Clean up.

2. Dismiss Class.
