Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Today I am learning about Maya society by:
Describing the daily roles assigned to the members of the Maya family unit
Understanding Mayan Family life.

Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
SDAIE: Starter: Quiz: Students will take a Quiz based on last weeks Starters. Quiz is to promote studying skills and test taking skills. All questions are based on DOK 1 levels. Students will also participate in the School Site Council student voting.
Direct Instruction (5 min.)
SDAIE: Model/Jigsaw: Maya Family Life: Teacher will go over the Jigsaw directions with the class. Students are to chose a number from 1-4. Once numbers are selected teacher will show the color associated with the number and reading students are to accomplish. Students will work on completing that section of their Cornell Notes before the 11 minutes is up. Teacher will verify completion of the work as students raise their hands.
Guided Practice (5 min.)
SDAIE: TPS/VIP's: Mayan Class Structure : Teacher will go over the answers to the section dealing with Maya Class Structure and students will make correction in red as needed on their papers. Teacher would have already checked students who finished on time and made notes on their paper so students can change the note. Teacher will go over the Peasant and Enslaved classes since students were to finish that over the weekend. Completed work was verified by the teacher over the weekend.
Independent Practice (11 min.)
SDAIE: Jigsaw/Cornell Notes/Chunked reading/lexile/Text to Speech/EL reading: Maya Family Life: Students will read the section they selected. Passages have been chunked, lexile adjusted, and cut into sections by the teacher. Students can use the electronic verision on their Google Stream to have it read to them if they chose to. Students will then complete their section of the Cornell Notes that deals with their section only. Students will notify the teacher when they are done to verify work.
Homework.
EdPuzzle: due Friday by 5 p.m.
Closure (3 min.)
1. Clean up.
2. Dismiss Class.
Lesson Modifications for GATE, RSP, and EL Students
EL: Projector (visuals), questioning, chunking, cognitive words, repetition, translation in Spanish.
RSP: Projector (visuals), questioning, modified assignments, check for understandings.
GATE: Require answers that will demonstrate depth and complexity of fertilization.

SDAIE: Model/Direct Teach: Maya Achievements: Teacher will go over the directions on how to complete the assignment dealing with the Mayan achievements. Teacher will introduce Focus Notes and how to complete them. Teacher will explain that students will have 10 minutes to complete each section and where to find the answers. Students without computers will be given readings to complete the sections.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Maya Family Life CN: Teacher will go over the answers to the Maya Family life Cornell Notes, provide further explanations and show video clips
Independent Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: Text to Speech/Cornell Notes/Graphic Organizer/Talk to text: Maya Family Life: Students will use thier headphones to have the textbook pages 376-372 read to them. They will fill in their Cornell Notes with hints provided by the teacher in the form of talking to the text. Students will get a better understanding of the Mayan family life, customs, and traditions.
SDAIE: Close Paragraph/Cornell Notes/Focus Notes/VBQ/Video Clips: Mayan Achievements: Students will be able to identify and describe the Mayan achievements dealing with the creation of the zero, building aqueducts, astronomy, and buidling of roads. Students will be given 10 minutes per section to watch a video and completing their graphic organizer that has a close paragraph, cornell notes, focus notes, and video based questions.
