Anticipatory Set (3 min):
Starter: 5 W's: Students will read and identify the 5 W's from a short reading dealing with "This Day in History."
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Close Read/Talking to Text: Mayan Family Life: Teacher will Close Read the section Mayan Family Life. As the teacher finishes reading the paragraph, teacher will use talk to the text to guide students in finding the appropriate notes for their Cornell Notes. (Finish from yesterday)
SDAIE: Model: Mayan Achievements: Teacher will go over the directions to the Mayan Achievements assignments. Students who brought their headphones will be watching 4 videos and completing 4 Video based questions (VBQ). Students without headphones will complete Cornell Notes as they read about the achievements.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Maya Family Life: Teacher will go over the answers on what notes students should have gotten based on the hints provided by the teacher. Finish up the Essential Question and the Connections part of the

SDAIE: VBQ/Video Clips/Cornell Notes/Talking to the Text: Mayan Achievements: Students will discover the Mayan achievements dealing with mathematics, water canals, writing, calendar, and roads. Some students will be watching videos and others will be reading and using the Cornell Notes which have hints and clues about what notes to take to guide their reading and learning.
