7.2.2: Trace the origins of Islam and the life and teachings of Muhammad, including Islamic teachings on the connection with Judaism and Christianity.
7.2.4: Discuss the expansion of Muslim rule through military conquests and treaties, emphasizing the cultural blending within Muslim civilization and the spread and acceptance of Islam and the Arabic language.

Anticipatory Set (3 min.) Daily Journals: Students will take their weekly Starter Quiz based on last weeks starters.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Chunk Read/Annotate: The Qur'an and the Sunnah: Teacher will lead students in a chunked reading and annotation dealing with the Qur'an and the Sunnah. Teacher will explain the difference between each one and provide examples. Students will answer an essential question after the each section of the chunked reading.
Guided Practice (5 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: The Qur'an and the Sunnah: Teacher and students will review their answers to the essential questions based on the reading.
Independent Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: Whisper Read/Carousel: Five Pillars of Islam: Students will be appointed one of the 5 pillars of Islam to read and become an expert in. Once they have read the section they will complete the graphic organizer dealing only with their own Pillar. They will write down the explanation and what the Pillar asks Muslims to complete and the importance of it. Students will then go around and share their knowledge of the Pillar with other students.
