Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Today I am learning about the rise Christianity in Rome by:
1. Tracing the origins of Christianity.
2. Understanding the life and teachings of Jesus.
3. Explaining how Christianity spread throughout the
Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.
WHST 4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.
WHST 9. Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Starters: Students will complete their Starters by placing the sentence in order of a RACE paragraph.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach: Life and Teaching of Jesus Focus Notes: Teacher will go over the instructions on how to complete the assignment. This is a continuation of yesterday where they will read the chunk passage from the stream. Students without a Chromebook will use the textbook pages 32-37 (Finish box 2 from yesterday)
SDAIE: Direct Teach: Persecution of Christians VBQ: Teacher will go over the instructions on how to complete the assignment on box 3 of the graphic organizer. Teacher will direct students to the videos on their Google Stream and pass out headphones. (Make sure you students do not damage or take them). For students without a Chromebook they will use the textbook page 35-37.
Guided Practice (x min.)
SDAIE: Progress Monitor: Origins of Christianity: Teacher will walk around the classroom and help students who need it and make sure they are on task.
Independent Practice (30 min.)
SDAIE: TPS/Chunk Reading/Focus Notes: Life and Teachings of Jesus: Students will answer a series of three Focus Notes questions. They will read a chunked passage, or pages 32-35 if they do not have their Chromebooks. Using the chunked reading they will write down the evidence that would answer the questions provided by the teacher in their Box 2 of their Graphic Organizer.
SDAIE: Video Clip/Video Based Questions: Persecution of Christians VBQ: Students will watch a video clip and answer four questions describing the persecution and hardships faced by the first Christians in complete sentence. Students with no Chromebook will use the textbook pages 35-36.
SDAIE: RACE/QuickWrite/Video Clip: Christianity Spreads: Students will watch a video and write down three ways in which Christianity spread with the help of Paul. They will be asked to write down the three evidences that caused it to spread. Based on that students are to pick one evidence and complete their RACE Quickwrite.

Starters: Students will participate in a Kahoot where they will go over the classroom rules and expectations.
Direct Instruction (5 min.)
SDAIE: SDAIE: Direct Teach: Origins of Christianity Vocabulary: Teacher will go over the instructions on how to complete the vocabulary section dealing with tier 2 and 3 words; Gospel, Messiah, Martyr, Parable.
Guided Practice (5 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Origins of Christianity: Teacher will go over the answers to the definitions and provide clarification.
Independent Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS/Tier II and III words: Orginis of Christianity Vocabulary: Students will define four tier II and III words using their textbook, digital dictionary on kami, or google dictionary and put the defination in their own words, provide a picture, determine what group it belongs to and how it may have impacted Rome.
