Anticipatory Set (3 min.)
Starter: Students will read a passage from this day in history. They are given a Claim and will have to find two supporting evidence within the reading.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Close Read: Fall of the Roman Empire: Teacher will lead students in a close read dealing with the Fall of the Roman Empire. Students will turn to page 42 in their textbooks and follow along with the teacher. When the teacher stops at a word students will read the word in a choral response. After each paragraph student will go back and read that paragraph again the teacher will clarify and provide further information if needed.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Fall of the Roman Empire: Students will be given time to share the evidence they gathered to provide an explanation for the fall of Rome.
Independent Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: Whisper Read/EQ/Evidence: Fall of the Roman Empire: Students will read page 42 in their textbook titled "The End of the Roman Empire in the West." Using their graphic organizer that is categorized into four topics; Economic, Political, Social, and Weakening Borders; students will find evidence from the reading that explains how those topics ultimately led to the fall of Rome. Students will then answer the essential question and decide which of the four topics they think was the overall reason for the fall of Rome.
SDAIE: Metacognition: Missing Assignments: Students will work on any missing assignments they may have for Mr. Moreno or any other of their teachers. If no missing assignments and they have headphones they can work on their homework. If all is done they may read a book, a physical book or go to the virtual library and check one out.
