1. Review Adams and Jefferson's presidency and how it shaped the American country. (8th Grade)
2. Understand and Define the tier 2 and 3 terms for Imperial China (7th Grade)

Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Daily Journal: Read today's passage of "This day in history" and identify the 5 W's by highlighting the passage and finally answering the Essential Question.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Model/Digital Outbreak: : Teacher will give directions fo the digital outbreak. Remind students they can use the book and internet sites.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Model: Imperial China Definitions: Teacher will go over the directions. Student will be asked to come up with their own definitions using context clues.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: TPS: Digital Outbreak: Teacher will go over the answers to the activity as a class if no one is done within 20 minutes.
7th Grade-SDAIE: TPS/Think Aloud: Imperial China Def.: Teacher will demonstrate how to use think aloud to have students focus on the context clues. Teacher will also point out root words or similar words they may have heard before to come up with the definitions
Independent Practice (22 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: TPS: Digtial Outbreak/Kahoot: Students will complete a digital outbreak. Then they will work on a Kahoot dealing with Jefferson's presidency.
7th Grade-SDAIE: TPS: Imperial China: Students will use context clues to define the terms. Teacher will then use pictures to quiz students on the meaning of the terms.
