Correlation to State Content Standards
7.2.3: Explain the significance of the Qur’an and the Sunna has the primary sources of Islamic beliefs, practice, and law, and their influence in Muslims’ daily life.
7.2.4: Discuss the expansion of Muslim rule through military conquests and treaties, emphasizing the cultural blending within Muslim civilization and the spread and acceptance of Islam and the Arabic language.
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
1. Explain the difference between the Sunni and Shi'ite and why the divisions developed.
2. Describe the basic beliefs of Islam using its two major authoritative sources; the Quran and Sunnah.
3. Identify the accomplishments made by Muslims as they adapted and innovated inventions to their region.
Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.
WHST 4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.
WHST 9. Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
Anticipatory Set (5 min.) Starter: Students will complete their "This Day in History" starter in which they will have to identify evidence from the chunked reading to support the CLAIM.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach/Model/QuickWrite: Sunni v. Shi'ite QW: Teacher will will model to students how to write their QuickWrite using the CLAIM, STATEMENT, Evidence method.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TRQ/Chunked Reading/Sentence Stems/Model: Quran and Sunnah: Teacher will model how to complete their text releated question based on the Quran and Sunnah. Teacher will work on the first question with the students from readin the paragraph, to the sentence stem, and then finally the answer. Once that is done students will select one TRQ, read, write the answer and then share their answers with their group. Class will review answers.
Independent Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: TPS/Group/Graphic Organizer/Visuals: Muslim Contributions: Students will analyze nine pictures dealing with Muslim contributions. Students will analyze each picture with their groups and decide what was that contribution to the world. After 2-3 minutes of analyzing the picture class will come together to discuss and write down what they believe was the answer.

EdPuzzle Intro to the Crusades due by Friday, December 2, 2022 at 5 p.m.
Closure ( 5 min.)
1. Clean up.
2. Take question/comments/announcements
3. Reset Edpuzzle for those needed.
4. Dismiss Class.
