Historical Journal: The Trail of Tears was a series of forced relocations of Native American peoples from their ancestral homelands in the Southeastern United States, to areas to the west that had been designated as Indian Territory. This was a result of President Andrew Jackson signing the Indian Removal Act in 1830. In the process of removal, thousands of Native Americas died from diseases and starvation.
