Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
1. Identify the causes of the decline of the Roman Empire.
2. Describe the changes made by Diocletian and Constantine.
3. Explain how the Western Roman Empire Fell.
Language Objective
Students will be able to explain the causes that lead to the fall of the Roman Empire and how Constantinople was able to create a new Eastern Empire while the Western Empire fell.

Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Close Reading: Internal Weaknesses Threaten Rome: Teacher will lead students in a Close Read of the section mentioned above pages 53-54 of their textbook. Teacher could also call on students to read paragraph.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: Kahoot: ROME Review: Teacher will utilize Kahoot to review the foundation of the Roman Empire covering geography, society, and political concepts.
Independent Practice (25 min.)
SDAIE: CER: Rome Becomes an Empire: Students will write a CLAIM to the guiding question about how Rome became an Empire. Then they will include 3 pieces of evidence that supports their CLAIM based on the reading. (Finish from yesterday)
SDAIE: Metcognition: EdPuzzle: Students will be given a chance to complete their homework if they finish their paragraph first before moving on to Kahoot.
SDAIE: Whisper Read: Rome Divides…/Fall of Roman Empire: Teacher will divide students into A and B students. The “A” students will read Rome Divides into East and West (54-55) and the “B” students will read Fall of the Roman Empire (55-56). Once students have read their sections they will answer the following questions dealing with their section. The “A” and “A” students will compare their answers, as will as their “B” and “B” students. Once that is done the “A” student and “B” students will partner up, summarize their section, and then share their answers. Teacher will monitor students.
