7.7.6: Understand the intellectual exchanges among Muslim scholars of Eurasia and Africa and the contributions Muslim scholars made to later civilizations in the areas of science, geography, mathematics, philosophy, medicine, art, and literature.
8.2.3: Evaluate the major debates that occurred during the development of the Constitution and their ultimate resolutions in such areas as shared power among institutions, di vided state-federal power, slavery, the rights of individuals and states (later addressed by the addition of the Bill of Rights), and the status of American Indian nations under the commerce clause.

Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Daily Journal: Abraham Lincoln is elected the 16th president of the United States becoming the first Republican to win the presidency. Lincoln, a Kentucky-born lawyer and former Whig representative to Congress, first gained national stature during his campaign against Stephen Douglas. By the time of Lincoln’s inauguration on March 4, 1861, seven states had seceded, and the Confederate States of America had been formally established, with Jefferson Davis as its elected president.w
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Direct Teach: Virginia and New Jersey Plan: Teacher will go over the two plans and explain how they work and who they benefited. Teacher will then explain to students the Compromise that Roger Sherman thought of to make both sides happy.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Progress Monitor: Muslim Adaptations and Innovations: Teacher will walk around the room and help students as they decipher pictures and write notes about their innovations.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: TPS: Virginia and New Jersey Plan: Teacher will go over the answers and provide further explanation.
7th Grade-SDAIE: TPS: Innovations and Adaptations: Teacher will go over the answers to the innovations and adaptations.
Independent Practice (22 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Graphic Organizer/Whisper Read/TPS: Virginia and New Jersey Plan: Students will read page 151 that covers that section. As they read the textbook they fill in their graphic organizer that explains the plan. Then they will read about the Great Compromise.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Metacognition: Muslim Innovations and Adaptations: Students will read through the textbook pages 141-151 and match the pictures with the Muslim innovations. Once they do that students, will write down VIP's (very important points) about the accomplishments.
