Students will be able to:
1. Understand the origins, teachings, and connection with Judaism and Christianity.
2. Identify and Understand the spread and growth of Islam.
Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.
WHST 4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.
WHST 9. Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
Anticipatory Set (3 min.)
Daily Journals: Students will read two excerpts from "This Day in History" and answer the Essential question and highlighting the evidence that supports their answer.
Direct Instruction (5 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach: Origins of Islam: Teacher will review the Origins of Islam and the overall goal of it.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Muhammad & Islam Close Paragraph: Teacher and students will review their answers. Teacher would check those students who finished on time.
Independent Practice (25 min.)
SDAIE: Cloze Paragraph: Origins of Islam: Students will complete a Cloze paragraph summary written by the teacher about the Origins of Islam. Students will have to review their past assignments to complete the paragraph.
SDAIE: Visual: Islam Timeline: Students will complete a timeline that demonstrates how Islam grew and spread throughout the Arabian Peninsula. Students will provide the date on the 7 events that need to be on the timeline. When placing the event on the timeline they will use a picture to symbolize the event. Picture will be taken from Google
Homework.
