Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Daily Journal: Read today's passage of "This day in history" and identify the 5 W's by highlighting the passage and finally answering the Essential Question.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Model : Teacher will explain the assignment dealing with the the Monroe Doctrine. Students will be given a political cartoon of the Monroe doctrine and within their groups will have to analyze and explain it.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Model: Civil Service Exams: Teacher will go over the directions to the section dealing with the Civil Service Exam on page 273.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: TPS: Monroe Doctrine Picture Frame: Teacher will go over the students results per group member pointing on the positive points that they hit on the political cartoon.
7th Grade-SDAIE: TPS: Civil Service Exam: Teacher will go over the answers students should've gotten from their reading and teachers short lecture
Independent Practice (22 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Picture Frame: Monroe Doctrine Political Cartoon: Working in groups of four, students will analyze a political cartoon dealing with the Monroe Doctrine. They will try to find meaning out of the drawing using context clues and knowledge of history.
7th Grade-SDAIE: T-Chart: Civil Service Exam: Students will read page 273 in their textbook and complete a Pros and Cons T-Chart dealing with the Civil Service Exams.
Homework.
