Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Daily Journal: Read today's passage of "This day in history" and identify the 5 W's by highlighting the passage and finally answering the Essential Question.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Model: Sense of Nationhood: Teacher will explain the directions to the students. Students will work in groups of 4 in which they will complete one section dealing with the Era of Good Feeling. Teacher will go over the 4 different tasks so students could decide which one they want to do. Once students are done with it they will teach the rest of their groups.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Model: Compass: Teacher will guide students on how to make a compass. Teacher will pass out supplies and explain to students how they are to be used. Supplies that will be needed will be a bowl, water, needle, cork.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: TPS: Sense of Nationhood: Once students have finished their section they will be experts of that. The categories are geography, symbolism, politics, and finally John Marshall. They will teach each other how those four categories led to the "Era of Good Feeling." Once they have all shared out teacher will go over each section in detail has students verify their answers.
7th Grade-SDAIE: TPS: China Inventions and discovery: Teacher will go over the answers the groups should have gotten by analyzing the picture.
Independent Practice (22 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: TPS: Tombstone Meme: Students will create a Tombstone Meme for the first 5 Presidents of the United States. The tombstone will have three things; Years, Legacy as president, and their involvement in foreign affairs. (10 min) continuation from yesterday.
8th Grade-SDAIE: Whisper Read/QW/Cornell Notes/Reciprocal Teaching: Sense of Nationhood: Students will work in groups of 4 to complete the assignment. Each member will be responsible for one section of the work. As they read, analyze, and answer the questions they will share their knowledge with the rest of the group.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Graphic Organizer/Group: China's Discoveries: Working in groups, students will analyze 10 pictures that deal with a Chinese achievement. They will have to figure out what it is and its use. Students will then read a short passage dealing with the each achievement and write down the correct answer. Students will then Search a modern version of the old invention.
