Anticipatory Set (3 min.)
Starter: Students will read a chunk section of "This Day in History" and answer the essential question in complete sentences.
Direct Instruction (5 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach: Humanism: Teacher will explain and go over the 7 pieces of evidence that were in the reading dealing with Humanism. Students only had to obtain three of the seven in order to complete their CER to answer the writing prompt.
Guided Practice (X min.)
SDAIE: TPS: The City of Florence: Teacher will go over the answers to the writing prompt and how it should have been done. Teacher has already looked at the writing prompt and commented on those that were completed on time.
Independent Practice (12 min.)
SDAIE: Whisper Read/CER/QuickWrite: Humanism: Students will read page 468-469 and complete their Cornell Notes. Students will be guided by talk to the text clues on their Cornell Notes that will help them select the important information and help them understand why Florence was the birthplace of the Renaissance. Students will also answer an essential question using the CER method in 7 sentences.
SDAIE: QuickWrite: Create an invention: Students will place themselves in the era of the Renaissance as they brainstorm to create a new invention for the modern world. They will provide a sketch and explanation of the invention and how it will benefit society.
