Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.

1. Describe the daily roles assigned to each member in the Inca family unit.
Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Starter: CER: Students will read a chunked passage from "This Day in History" provided by the History Channel and be able to identify the evidence to suppor the CLAIM that is provided.
Direct Instruction (5 min.)
SDAIE: Model: Inca Family and Religion: Teacher will go overt the directions to the assignment. Teacher will explain that each group will select a number that is associated to a section of the assignment; Childhoo, Marriage, Religious Beliefs and Practice, and Chosen Women. Teacher will go around each group and a member will select a paper with a number.
Guided Practice (x min.)
SDAIE: Progress Monitor: Inca Family and Religion: Teacher will walk around the class making sure students are on task and answering questions to students who may need help.
Independent Practice (35 min.)
SDAIE: Quads/TPS/Carousel/Text to Speech: Inca Class Structure: Students will work on one the four topics. They will have 12-15 minutes to read their section and answer a series of questions. Once they have individually answered their questions, they will get together with their group and discuss their answers. Students will make changes to their set of questions. Once they have agreed, students will then go around and meet up with another member of a different group and they will share their answers. Students will repeat this until all four sections are done.
