7.7.5: Describe the Meso-American achievements in astronomy and mathematics, including the development of the calendar and the Meso-American knowledge of seasonal changes to the civilizations’ agricultural systems.

Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Starter Quiz: Metacognition: Students will take their Starter Quiz based on last week starters.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Close Read/Annotate/Chunk: Inca Achievements: Teacher will close read chunked passages and use talk to text to guide students in annotating the important information from the reading. Teacher will provide further explanation after reading to help them make a connection to the information.
Guided Practice (5 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Inca Achievements: Teacher will go over the answers to the questions dealing with the Inca Achievements.
Independent Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: Essential Question/Video Clip/VBQ/CER QW: Inca Achievements: Students will watch short clips dealing with the achievements of the Inca civilization; roads, agriculture, medicine, and writing. Students will answer video based questions. The videos will go along with the short reading that they had done prior to watching the videos and provide more information. The last achievement students will answer it using the Claim, Evidence, and
Homework.

Identify the the agricultural techniques used by the Inca and explain their significance for survival.
Identify the scientific and technological achievements of the Inca.
Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Starter: Evidence: Students will read a chunked section of "This day in History" and provide at least one evidence from the reading to support the Claim that is provided for them.

SDAIE: Chunked Reading/Essential Question/Video Clip/VBQ/Sentence Stem: Inca Achievements: Students read a chunked section dealing with roads, agriculture, civilizations, and medicine. Students will annotate the passage and answer an essential question with the use of sentence stems. Class will watch short clips dealing with the achievements of the Inca civilization; roads, agriculture, and medicine. Students will answer video based questions. The videos will go along with the short reading that they had done prior to watching the videos and provide more information.
SDAIE: CER writing/Video Clip: Inca Quipu: Students will be given a writing prompt about the importance of Quipus in Inca Civilization. Students will watch a video that explains the latest understanding archeologists have made about the quipus and gather evidence that will help them answer the question. Students will then write a CLAIM, EVIDENCE, REASON statement answering the writing prompt.
Homework.
