Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Starter: 5 W's/TPS/chunking: Students will complete their starters based on a chunked passage from this "This Day in History"
Direct Instruction (5 min.)
SDAIE: Cloze Read/Talk to Text/Annotate: Pangea: Teacher will read a passage explaining the formation of the continents through Pangea and plate tectonics. Students will be guided in talking to the text to annotate the passage and then answer two essential questions.
Guided Practice (5 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Geography Pangea: Teacher will go over the to the sections of the Graphic organizer once students have completed a portion of the assignment on their own for a chunked period of time.
Independent Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: QuickWrite/CER/Word Bank: Pangea: Students will explain in their own words using the CER method what was Pangea. They will summarize the reading in 3-5 sentences and include 3 vocabulary words in their summary; supercontinent, continental drift, and plate tectonics. Students will then copy the teacher model and be asked to grade their summary to the teachers. Teacher's summary acts as a model at what level of writing we are trying to achieve.
SDAIE: Annotate/Essential Question: Pangea: Students will answer the essential question following the reading and annotation of the reading dealing with Pangea.
Homework.

EL: Projector (visuals), questioning, chunking, cognitive words, repetition, translation in Spanish.
RSP: Projector (visuals), questioning, modified assignments, check for understandings.
GATE: Require answers that will demonstrate depth and complexity of fertilization.
