Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS/CER: Roanoke and Jamestown Settlements: Teacher will present a video that demonstrates the mystery behind Roanoke and possible theories. Teacher will provide newest insight of what happened to the colony of Roanoke after students have read and completed their Cornell Notes. (8th Grade)
SDAIE: Discussion: Keys to a Civilization : Teacher will begin by asking students to work in their groups and they to figure out what classifies has being civilized. Teacher will then go over the 5 keys to a civilization and provide examples. (7th Grade)
Guided Practice (15 min.)
SDAIE: Cornell Notes/Think Aloud: Roanoke and Jamestown: Teacher will model think aloud as teacher guides students in finding the important notes from the passage. (8th Grade)
SDAIE: TPS: Geo Challenge: Teacher will go over the answers to the Geo Challenge that students were completing. (7 Grade)
Independent Practice (25 min.)
SDAIE: Cornell Notes: Roanoke and Jamestown Hardships: Students will watch a video that describes the hardships experienced by the settlers. (8th Grade)
SDAIE: Book to Text: Geo Challenge: Students will label a map of Meso-America with the locations of the Maya, Aztec, and Inca civilization. Students will answer two questions that has them analyze the map and make a conclusion. (7 Grade)
