7.3: Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the civilizations of China in the Middle Ages.
8.2.6: Enumerate the powers of government set forth in the Constitution and the fundamental liberties ensured by the Bill of Rights.
8.4.1: Describe the country’s physical landscapes, political divisions, and territorial expansion during the terms of the first four presidents.

4. Understand the importance of the passage of the 12th Amendment. (8th Grade)

Anticipatory Set (10 min.) Daily Journals: Students will read two excerpts from "This Day in History" and answer the daily essential question using the information in the short passage.
Direct Instruction (20 min.)
7th Grade-SDAIE: Close Read/Annotate/Talk to Text: Rise of Hinduism: Teacher will read and guide students in annotating by using talk to the text in the section dealing with the rise of Hinduism in the Gupta Empire. Students will answer the essential questions.
8th Grade-SDAIE: Close Read: The Election of 1800: Teacher will begin by reading a short paragraph that will set the stage for the election of 1800 go over the Essential Question and prep students on the VBQ they will complete on their own.
Guided Practice (15 min.)
7th Grade-SDAIE: TPS: Gupta Government Venn Diagram: Teacher and students will use the reading to complete a Venn Diagram that compares and contrast the Mauryan and Gupta Empire. Teacher will go over the answers to the locations of the achievements of the Gupta Empire.
8th Grade-SDAIE: TPS/Direct Teach: The Election of 1800: Teacher will go over the answers to the Video Based Questions and provide further information of the election and why it was chaotic.
Independent Practice (30 min.)
7th Grade-SDAIE: Focus Notes: Evolution of Hinduism: Students will complete the focus notes by using the annotations they completed in the reading to help provide their notes to answer the essential questions.
7th Grade-SDAIE: VBQ: Evolution of Buddhism: Students will watch a video and answer questions dealing of the evolution of Buddhism.
8th Grade-SDAIE: VBQ: Election of 1800: Students will watch a video that explains the chaos surrounding the Election of 1800 and how Hamilton interfered with the election process causing the first presidential tie.
8th Grade-SDAIE: Focus Notes: 12th Amendment: Students will complete their focus notes explaining the importance of the 12th amendment.
Homework.
