7.3 Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the civilizations of China in the Middle Ages.
8.3.5: Know the significance of domestic resistance movements and ways in which the central government responded to such movements (e.g., Shays’ Rebellion, the Whiskey Rebellion).

4. Define what characteristics classify a historical time period as a “golden age.” (7th Grade)

Daily Journal: Read today's passage of "This day in history" and identify the 5 W's by highlighting the passage and finally answering the Essential Question.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Cloze Read: Washington's Farewell Address: Teacher will cloze read the four quotations taken from Washington's Farewell Address speech.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Close Read: Rise of the Gupta Empire: Teacher will Cloze Read the passage with the students.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Think Aloud: Washington's Farewell Address: Teacher will use think aloud to help students paraphrase what advice Washington is giving to the nation.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Annotate/Think Aloud: Rise of Gupta Empire: Teacher will use Think Aloud using the passage to guide students in annotating the passage.
Independent Practice (22 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Chunking/QW/Video Clips: Washington's Farewell Address: Students will read passages from Washington's speech and paraphrase Washington's advice to the nation. Video clips will be added to help students understand further and explanation will be provided.
8th Grade-SDAIE: QW/Video Clips: Washington's Accomplishments: Students will reflect back on Washington's Presidency and explain how he set the bar far all future presidents.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Venn Diagram: Mauryan v Gupta Empire: Students will compare and contrast the Mauryan and Gupta Empire using the passage and write the findings on the Venn Diagram. Students will then answer their Essential Question.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Map Visual: Golden Age: Student will identify the seven cities on a map that gave way to the Gutpa's Empire Golden Age. They will also explain what that would consists for each category.
