Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Daily Journal: Read today's passage of "This day in history" and identify the 5 W's by highlighting the passage and finally answering the Essential Question.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Model/CER : Teacher will explain the process of answering a Document based question using the CER method.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Direct Teach: Mongol Rule: Teacher will summarize the reading completed by the students to assure they comprehend. Students will be given a couple of minutes to add more notes into their Focus Notes.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Think Aloud/CER: DBQ: Teacher will go over the thinking process on how students should be organizing their information to answer a DBQ. Teacher will demonstrate the finish essay step by step.
7th Grade-SDAIE: TPS: Mongol Rule: Teacher will go over the answers students should've gotten from their reading and teachers short lecture
Independent Practice (22 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: CER: DBQ Students will complete the last paragraph of the DBQ explaining the causes of the War of 1812. Students will peer edit the students paragraphs and grade them on a three point number system: Does it follow the CER method, did they use the documents, does it answer the question.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Whisper Read/Focus Notes: Mongol Rule: Students will read page 272 in their textbook and find the evidence that will answer the two focus questions on their graphic organizer. They will have 10 minutes to complete on their own and given 5 minutes to discuss their answers and findings with their group members.
