Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
1. Understand who Confucius was and the impact he had on Imperial China.
2. Analyze and summarize Confucius proverbs and apply them to their lives.
Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.
WHST 4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.
WHST 9. Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
Anticipatory Set (3 min.)
Daily Journals: Students will take their Starter Quiz based on last weeks starters.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach/Chunk/Annotate/Talk to Text: Confucianism: Teacher will led students on two chunked paragraphs dealing with who was Confucius and what did he teach. Teacher will use talk to the text help students annotate. Students will use the information to answer the Essential Question.
Guided Practice (5 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Confucius Proverbs: Teacher will go over the answers to the three Confucius Proverbs and how they can relate them to their daily lives.
Independent Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS/Diads: Confucius Proverbs: Students will analyze 3 Confucius Proverbs. They will read the proverb, analyze, and explain their understanding of the proverb. They will share their explanation with their partner and discuss how they came to that conclusion. Finally they will explain how they can implement each of the 3 Proverbs in their daily lives.
Homework.
