7.5: Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the civilizations of medieval Japan.
7.5.1: Describe the significance of Japan's proximity to china and Korea and the intellectual, linguistic, religious, and philosophical influence of those countries on Japan.
7.5.2: Discuss the reign of Prince Shotoku of Japan and the characteristics of Japanese society and family life during his reign.
7.5.3: Describe the values, social customs, and traditions prescribed by the lord vassal system consisting of shogun, daimyo, and samurai....
7.5.6: Analyze the rise of a military society in the late twelfth century and the role of the samurai in that society.
7.5.5: Study the ninth and tenth centuries golden age....and its lasting effects on culture today.

Anticipatory Set (3 min.)
Daily Journals: Students will find two evidences to support the CLAIM from today's starter about George Washington Carver.
Direct Instruction (5 min.)
SDAIE: Model: Ancient Japan Review: Teacher will go over the instructions of how they are to work on the review sheet. Students will be able to work with their classmates around them and discuss their answers.
Guided Practice (15 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Review answers: Teacher will go over the answers to the review questions and provide further explanation and clarification. Along with the review, teacher will show clips and examples.
Independent Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: partner/Diads: Ancient Japan Review: Students will complete a series of 9 questions dealing with ancient Japan with their elbow partners using a voice level of two. Student are encouraged to use their graphic organizers to find their answers. The name of the graphic organizer where students can find the answers are provided in the sheet next to the questions.
