The Duet of Injustice and Greed

The Duet of Injustice and Greed

By Tarif Youssef Agha

As long as ‘Injustice’ keeps its sword up

Hitting some with it and excluding others,

Painting the white, black and the black, white,

Honoring criminals and making corruption glorious

Then, the masses will keep boiling with anger

And will keep working hard to topple their rulers in any way possible

So if you saw those masses silent for some time,

Don’t think they gave up or they were struck dumb

***

And as long as ‘Greed’ stays the man’s best friend

The wars will keep the world burning in flames

They may call them protective wars or surgical wars

And to justify them, they fill the air with croaking

But they may also call them a mandate or say they are protecting minorities

So you hear them once mooing and once more hee-hawing

But they plant death wherever they stop or go

While crows, behind them, are filling the air with cawing

***

‘Injustice’ and ‘Greed’ do not give birth except to wars and revolutions

Freedom can not be accomplished without martyrs

Wars will always end, revolutions will always win

Revolutions will always win, even if the whole world steps in its way

Humiliating the masses is a huge mistake

As they always know the road to dignity

And as soon as they start walking that road

Nothing will stop them, short of the finish line
