If you see a country being demolished

If you see a country being demolished

By Tarif Youssef Agha

If you see a country being entirely demolished,

And you see the people being forced to immigrate in masses

If the who were left behind are classified between killed and killers,

And beheading becomes an ordinary matter,

Then you are in the Assad Syria where

The knives are always leaning at the necks

***

If you see bombs falling like rain,

Blood running through houses like flooding rivers,

Massacres storming every city and town,

And seashores becoming ports to death,

Then you are in the Assad Syria where,

If you survive today, you may not tomorrow

***

If the land mines become the seeds,

And the missiles become the wheat spikes

If the scientists were forced to flee,

And the illiterates become the decision makers

Then you are in the Assad Syria where

The people are the murdered and the regime is the murderer

***

If the butcher is called the great president,

And every criminal who dies is called a martyr

If the occupier is called an ally,

And the people are being killed in all ways and methods,

Then you are in the Assad Syria where

All the world’s nations are gathered to fight each other

***

If you see a country being wiped out while the whole world is watching,

The whole world is showing carelessness,

The whole world is either a liar or a hypocrite,

Claiming that it works to accomplish a just solution,

Then you are in the Assad Syria where

Those who dare to say the truth are few

The whole world is still watching the massacres in Syria and doing nothing to remove the butcher behind all that; the dictator Bashar Assad
