Seven Years Have Passed
Rifaat Youssef-Agha (1920-2014)
By Tarif Youssef-Agha
Seven years have passed, and your image has never left us,
Oh Dad, you left us and left broken hearts behind
Seven years have passed and you never left our thoughts,
Your image will forever stay pierced in our hearts
I blame the years as they pass as seconds,
To leave our lives mutilated
Our souls will always be the home of your memorial,
And our eyes will always be marked by tears for you
We will never pay you back, no matter what we do,
You left us a reputation with fragrance of Jasmine
You have always been our role model,
You have always been the light to our future
You were a medal on our family’s chest,
Our family will never stop being proud of you
You crossed into another world,
I don’t see plain life as more than just a crossing
I don’t see it more than just a quick visit,
Or as someone taking a short break, then keep going
The wombs throw us into the journey of life,
The graves will be waiting for us at the last station
Oh Dad, death has been and will always be,
As a builder who raises high fences between people
Or as an archer with arrows,
An archer who only aims to kill
