I Will Apologise to Her

I Will Apologize to Her

By Tarif Youssef Agha

I will apologize to her for each single day that passed

Without telling her “I adore you”

For each single hour that passed

Without me hugging her and her hugging me

Even for each single second in which

Her eyes were not reflected on the surface of my eyes

If time goes back and my heart has the chance to choose again

Then it will only debate between loving her or adoring her

If I am offered the whole world with every one in it

From the whole world, I will choose only her

Bless the creator for the charm she has

Bless the creator for the beauty given to her

If you look at her, you will be captured by her prettiness

If you approach her, you will get intoxicated by her scent

She doesn’t leave my mind because she lives in it

It doesn’t remember her because it doesn’t forget her for a moment

My heart doesn’t leave her because she is always sitting with it

It only walks away from her to prepare to meet her again

I was asked “who is that lover?”

I said “the one under whose sky I lived my younger years”

Syria, the cradle of history and the bride of countries

God bless her and bless her people

The land which is one of a kind is worn-out today

From bombardment, but also from the hypocrisy of the world

The ever-green land she use to have became bloody red today

The planes of death cultivate the land, and the blood of people to irrigate it

If, one day, humanity loses Syria

Then Humanity loses its origins and meaning
