Love, Syrian Style

Love, Syrian Style

By Tarif Youssef Agha

I fell in love with her, before any other love

I waited for her before she was born

For forty years, I have been dreaming with her

But finally, today, her face rose as a morning sun

For forty years, my heart has been promising me her love

No one is more credible than the heart of a lover

I haven’t thought about her once without being shaken

Without my temperature being rising and finding myself drowning in sweat

I learned the words of love while waiting for her

Waiting for her liberated the rhymes of poetry

I learned to flirt in order to steal her heart

I learned how to fight so no one can steal her heart

***

Please allow me to introduce myself

And to introduce my beloved whom many want to kill

I’m the People of the Brave Syria, and she is our Revolution

Our Revolution that was launched by the injustice

The one who made the globe kneel down before her in respect

The one history hasn’t known any similar, who made the iron talk

The one who threw all other revolutions behind

Our people fed her generously with their blood and tears

Our Revolution will not stop before accomplishing full victory

Those who burned the people should be burned

Syria no more has a place for a gang

That is headed by an aggressor and butcher stooge
