Flirting, with Syrian Flavor
Flirting, with Syrian Flavor
By Tarif Youssef Agha
Oh people, don’t blame me for loving her
As I fell for her, even before my eyes saw the light
She doesn’t leave me neither while I’m awake, nor while I’m asleep
As her face is printed under my eye lids
She always was the best choice of my brain
She, as well, was the prettiest of my craziness
I always portrayed her in colored paintings
Paintings that became the best art works I have ever done
Charming when she is calm, and charming when she is angry
Everything about her asks you to fall in love with her
I spent most of my life in her laps
Moving from a warm lap into a caring one
She taught me the synonyms of love, the words and sentences
And she taught me the secrets of the looks of love
She took my heart as a prisoner at first sight
Then she turned it into a lover then into an adorer
If my heart owes any debt to any one,
Then it owes only her all the debts
My story with her became a proverb
It forced into retirement the story of Qaiss and Leila (Famous love story as Romeo and Juliet)
They said “Would you tell us whom you are talking about?”
Then they added “Who is your love?”
I said “Syria, the cradle of all civilizations”
The one who ignited its revolution in order to free every prisoner
Syria today is saying to the world
“Freedom and Dignity, or I will die for it”
