We, the children of Syria

We, the children of Syria

An anthem by Tarif Youssef Agha

We, the children of Syria,

Want peace

We want schools and playgrounds,

But not tents

We want to see the morning,

But not to be killed while sleeping

The sea has had enough of swallowing our bodies,

And we have had enough of listening to empty words from the world

Oh world, why?

Why did you make Syria ruins?

We dreamed of liberty,

You ruined our dreams

You denied us every thing,

Even dignity

Oh world, what happened?

How did your chivalry die?

You don’t see what happened to us

You only see our victims as numbers

You took the childhood innocence away from us,

In order to keep the dictators on their thrones

Oh world, our blood will become

A medal on your chest

And history will remember that we were slaughtered,

Just because you have feelings for the oppressors

Meanwhile, we, the children of Syria,

Want nothing but peace

Two weeks ago, the world celebrated the Children’s Day, November 20, but forgot what the Syrian children are going through.
