We Came To Life Without Invitation

We Came To Life Without Invitation

By Tarif Youssef-Agha

We came to life without invitation,

And we won’t have anything to do with departing

We did not sign our birth certificate, and will not be

Consulted when our death certificate will be printed

We don’t know why we came and why we should leave,

And we don’t understand why everybody loves life

It looks like that was what we saw our ancestors doing,

Or as it’s just a contagious sickness

I do not see any difference in its love,

Between humans and animals

One is spreading his feathers like a peacock,

And one is bragging about his wealth and children

Everybody seeks children then complain,

Nobody can differentiate between love and desire

If we ignore the details, we will find

That our life happened as a mistake

And if we analyze it back from end to start,

We will see that life was having fun messing with us

And as we are no more than temporary visitors,

And that what we do is worthless.

I see it as nothing but like smoking a cigarette,

Or, perhaps, as a quick cup of coffee visit

A short time ago, a year replaced a year,

We do not know, yet, what calamities the new one is carrying
