Good result in Nelson at the Best Island event for me
After sailing Sunday shot around to John's place and helped him set up with winch/transmitter limits on his v10. (sorry you missed alot of the AB's game John)
Very early Monday morning heading south for Lyell. Never heard of it? Not surprising there is hardly a sign there was every a settlement there, (2 hour south this a just about on the west coast), This is one end of the Old Ghost Road. 100+ years back the were several gold mining towns up this track with schools, post offices and of course Pubs. There is only a few old pieces on the side of this track showing the history of this gold mining area, the bush has swallowed it all up. The weather was good when I left at 10am with a planned 1pm turnaround to make it out in daylight by 4pm . The plan was 3 hours hard slog walking up this hill. I made good time and the 10km and 700 metres climb was acheived by 12.30 I had lunch at that 10km point and then headed back. Only 2 hours to get down the 10km's. Camped in the DOC campsite for the night with all the sand flies... Summing up Lyell, make friends with sand flies ! Great walk when drier. Heavy rain here last Sat.Sun.
