Views expressed here are Graham Roberts personal view and Graham has not discussed this with the TRSC committee yet.
In the past Graham has strongly spoken out against the High NZRYA IOM fees as 95% of our club members just would like to go club sailing,
However most members would like also like to do the right thing and join our associations and register new IOM'S as they are building them.
Overview
In the Past all our IOM regional decisions were made the NZRYA. Well no more...
In the background some IOM owners have created a separate IOM BOAT OWNERS ASC ( Thanks for all your hard work boys !)
This is total separate from the NZ Radio Yacht Association and this committee should be made up of a different set of IOM sailors from the NZRYA.
The first IOM BOAT OWNERS ASC AGM is on the 16th Feb, Before our next TRSC committee meeting
In the next few days some of us NZRYA members will be able to vote on how much the IOM BOAT OWNERS ASC are going to charge you in 2021
(on top of your NZRYA 2021 fee you have to also pay next year)
Please Read - http://www.nzradioyachtingassociation.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/NZL-IOM-NCA-Notice-of-2020-AGM-2-6.pdf

Graham's views
Looks like the new IOM BOAT OWNERS ASC committed has listened to most of our previous complaints.
$1 annual fee :) :) :) nice work
$10 change of ownership :) :) :) fantastic :)
However one of Graham's PET complaints IS still there
$25 new Hull registration :( :( :( UNLESS YOU INTEND TO PAY MEASURER'S...?
Regional Event fees are steep, but would cover cost such and winners medals and i assume NZRYA buoy costs and revenue collecting?
Some of our members are on pensions, ACC incomes or are unemployed (myself), and are on very tight fixed incomes so disposable income is very limited.
The problem with our voting system it is normally 50% pass.
So lets say 60% from around New Zealand approve these fees. (People on high disposable incomes who don't think about lower income earners when voting)
40% decline these fees. (People who have low disposable income like myself)
The vote gets passed and us 40% of owners are just have to suck it up..
The new IOM BOAT OWNERS ASC committee might be just happy they got there vote over the 50% line...
No one ever asks why the 40% declined the vote, and there anything they could change to get 99% of the sailors happy
However 40% of there members are not happy (plus the OM's owners that could not vote and where not represented in these voting numbers)
So Graham's guess what will probably happen next. (And is already happening in multiple regions over the past few years)
This unhappy 40% will rebel to some level.
Club members will build OM's (Call them "One Metres", instead of IOM's and save $25)
Clubs to promote local sailors will drop "Regional's" so these unregistered OM's race can race with IOM's.
Some clubs will decline to run regional events and just call them local club events and save $5 per boat Regional (plus allow OM's)
Grahams Conclusion and Hope's
If we all work together to promote this IOM BOAT OWNERS ASC (and remember IOM boat racers are only a small subset of this total group)
This new structure should all work out for the best for all IOM Boat Owners..
A few of us and going to be voting for what the majority of our One Metre Tauranga Radio Sailing Club members want ?
(only 15 of us can vote but there are well over 100 One Metre's in our region)
The new IOM BOAT OWNERS ASC has obviously thought about our fee structure carefully
The $1 annual fee is fantastic and we should all join our IOM association next year in 2021
(Hopefully everyone thinks about club structures so we can just pay one club membership which includes membership fee to NZRYA and the IOM asc)
Graham is still going to fight against the high $25 new boat building fee
And I hope it fails and gets reduced back to $10 or less to encourage boat builders to registered new IOM's as built
(how about free with one years free membership to promote more IOM's being build in home builders sheds)
Down the track the next IOM BOAT OWNERS ASC committee can look and there finical books and decide if they can reduce regional fees and encouage all boats to join in. Hopefully this new IOM BOAT OWNERS ASC has 100% transparency with full minutes and full finical reports regularly and regular updates on new boats being built, rules changes and tips and hits for IOM owners and IOM Builders.
Please send feedback to

So I can take them to the TRSC committe meeting next Tuesday.
It would be great if our votes represented our total clubs wish's... to do this, we need to know what you want ?
Thanks for reading
