Tauranga's first one metre monthly and the weatherman did not do us any Favours predicting rain at 10am.
9am and the crew turned up. We set up in the hope that a few more non entered sailors would turn up. We set up the course and gazabo for a rain shelter for the expected rain. A very nice breeze straight down the lake so 1/2 an hour early we had a non-points race while we waited for the 10.30am start time.
10.30 on the dot the wind shifted offshore 'Ish so a quick course spin and by 10.40am we were away racing. Long 2 lap races. With the bottom marks now on the far side of the lake, mark contact at these two marks were allowed as long as you pasted on the correct side.
You could throw a blanket over the fleet in most races with only metres between the whole fleet. As the day progressed then wind rolled back a bit to down the lake from Bus Stop to Bridge and we went from Mid A rig to the top end of A. A quick Lunch / Bathroom stop and we were back into it with plenty on nose dives and round outs deterring the final race positions. Everyone stayed on A for the whole day which was still the correct rig for the conditions.
First signs of rain at 2.30pm with a quick heavy shower for a couple of minutes. 3pm came, so time for our last traditional long bus stop to bridge winner takes all race. Congrats to Gary Dix on 65 for taking the honors.
An Awesomes days racing. Team Tauranga really enjoyed the days racing.
