9.30am the crew all turned up. Sailors from Auckland, Waihi, Katikati, Tauranga and 2.5 teams from Hastings. Good effort everyone, big effort making the trip. Hope we can all come down for a return weekend session :)
Mega thanks for Nigel, Tim and Alan for running events today. It was a great day with perfect wind conditions for this event. The rain stayed away :)
We got racing underway at 10.03am with a mass pack Starboard start. A quick tack onto Port and all headed upwind to the top mark. A reach across to the left behind the trees, then an extremely tricky downwind in a dead area, then across to the lap scoring mark, Bottom mark and repeat.
Justin and Graham got away from the pack of 5 boats initially, however things stayed pretty static for the next 2 hours with the distances staying the same, and the pack of 5 fort it our.
Hour 3 and Arron/Bruce and Ken/Owen caught up and took the lead for a few laps.
Hour 4 and Justin/Graham snuck a lead again, with a few lucky down winds in the dead section and managed to pull a lap on the fleet. The pack of 5 remained together and a lot of dueling was had with positions changing on every lap.
64 got stronger and stronger as the day progressed with some fantastic laps. 11, 10 and 58 all had legs and kept repassing boats back during the day.
Hour 5 stayed pretty static with a lot of local battles between boats. A big turnout in spectators at the end to see what this format of racing is all about.
A quick medal presentation, Finishing an enduro is no small feet, let alone the whole pack making it. Well done everyone. Great day and event.
Hope to see some of you all Monday for the 65's enduro here at the Bus Stop, or next month at the Tauranga IOM Champs on 24th September at the Jetty :)
