Hello Club Secretaries,

We thought it was a good time to check in with an update on some IOM things. It would appreciated it if you could forward this email to your members.

Hamilton Meter Monthly - Sunday August 22nd August

Attached is the Notice Of Race for the upcoming Hamilton Meter Monthly. The Waikato Radio Yacht Club is hosting the August Meter Monthly at Hamilton Lake (with assistance from the North Shore Radio Yacht Squadron). We hope this will encourage Waikato Radio Yacht Club members back on the water for some good racing and camaraderie.

Sail Numbers

There has been various talk about sail numbers in past month or so. The Racing Rules of Sailing apply, specifically RRS E8 which states:

This rule applies to every boat of a class administered or recognised by World Sailing or by the International Radio Sailing Association (IRSA).

G1.3 Sail numbers

(a) The sail number shall be the last two digits of the boat's registration number or the competitor’s or owner’s personal number, allotted by the relevant issuing authority.

(b) When there is conflict between sail numbers, or when a sail number may be misread, the race committee shall require that the sail numbers of one or more boats be

changed to numeric alternatives.

so............ your sail number must be the last two digits of your hull registration number, unless you have a valid personal sail number certificate - in which case your sail number is your personal sail number.

In the event that two boats have the same sail number, the personal sail number takes precedence and the other boat will be required to add the digit, most likely '1', in front of their sail number on all sails used at the regatta.

It is also worth mentioning that an IOM Measurer should ensure the correct and compliant sail numbers and insignia are on the sails at the time of measuring. I have attached the 'IOM Sail Identification' document which details what is required.

If you have any questions about boat and sail measurement/compliance contact Ian Vickers our NCA IOM Class Measurer.

Covid 19

Spare a thought for our fellow Aussie IOM sailors who have entered the upcoming South Island Champs and Nationals. The 8 week Australian travel bubble suspension means those six Australian SI Champs entrants are prevented from coming and the nine Aussies entered in the Nationals are looking unlikely given the current restrictions in Australia.

What that does mean, however, is that if you missed the 45 entry cut off for the South Island Champs, there may be some places available now.

IOM Ranking Champion

The NCA has approved a member suggestion for a new trophy (shield) for the 'IOM Ranking Champion'.

The shield will be awarded to the IOM Ranking Champion at the conclusion of the years National Champs ie presented at the IOM Nationals prize giving and will include the result of that Nationals regatta .

You need to be a New Zealand resident (Aussies aren't eligible) and the scoring formula is the same as the current NZ IOM ranking system. The winner will be the skipper with the highest score of their best four ranking regattas.

The first of the qualifying regattas will be the 2021 Murray Rountree in November at Wellington and the last qualifying regatta will be the 2022 Nationals.

NCA Communications

Your IOM NCA Management Committee meet monthly and invite you to email your thoughts and ideas for the IOM Class to secretary@nziomnca.org.

For those of you who haven't subscribed to the NZRYA website, we encourage you to do so to keep in touch with what's happening.
