Today I had my first sail at the lake for 2023 and what a ripper it was.
Strong gusty NE wind and when I say gusty I mean it,
there were some good rockets and even Pete 448 from Matata had a job controlling them.
'Cripes' he said 'I can't remember having to deal with this sort of stuff back on my Moth on Lake Hakanoa.'
So believe me, that's a serious statement.
Graham NZL104 and others kindly erected the Gazebo for shade.
Within seconds there was a block of skippers out of the sun and ready to race.
Keith showed up and said 'what's going on?'
He was a bit taken back that there were so many there early and ready to race.
15 boats today which is the biggest fleet we have had for a while.
Pete197 and Ian 188 worked on the course, and we were ready to race right at 1:00pm and race we did.
We rattled off a couple of races then had a small course change to give a better beat.
That was it for the afternoon. Today was a lot about boat handling and taking care to avoid collisions with others.
Violent balls of wind were coming over the hill and bombing the fleet, so a keen watch was needed to avoid spinouts.
The racing was tight and again we had lots of winners along with some really close minor placings.
Thanks everyone for making the day an exciting one, it might not be too flash on Thursday.
Here are a few of the 95 photos I took today.
