8th June 2026 - King for the Day, at The Bus Stop.
A cool afternoon for today's races. The breeze was up and from the SW. Nigel 168 welcomed the eleven skippers and had a gated course set straight into the breeze. with the amount of breeze we had, three laps per race was the instructions. Racing started with a pipe opener practice race to bed the fleet in. Harry 555 did a quick repair on his stern block that had pulled out of the hull and racing started.
Lots of puffs were coming down the lake that tested the up and down wind skills of the skippers.
Races were rattled off in quick succession and we managed 12 races in about 1.5 hours when Chief Flight Officer and top Weatherman Rob 501 declared that a nasty rain band was about to hit us. Kent 717 took over RO and declared the fleet was to move to an RTW for the final race of the day won by Gary 54 who had set the pace all day. He showed how the NZ Champion he is can sail in those conditions. Pete 179 calculated the results. See in the photos.
New sailor Mark 488 acquitted himself well in the stronger wind conditions and we are sure he will be back for more exciting racing.
We then held a quick prize giving and Nigel had kindly produced a very nice King for the Day trophy, thanks Nigel. So the prize list was.
