Unfortunately the Tauranga Lakes did not provide one of it better windy October Mondays. The morning conditions were light and variable with the wind coming and going around the compass.

Come 10.30am the the team poured in. A great turnout for our 1st Annual DF65 Tauranga Club Champs. Sailors from EBOP, Rotorua, Papamoa and Tauranga. Awesome effort guys :)

13 boats hit the start line today. 10.45am a practise race before the recorded points racing started at 11am.

RO Ken Fox and with helpers, Gary and Owen, were kept busy all day chasing the wind as it kept moving 90 degree all day. The boys did well to punched through 1.5 lap races and keep us all moving in these extremely trick course setting conditions.

Cliff and Graham were fighting it out all day, pushing each other on the start line and herding each other around the course. They went into the lunch break points drawn and with a pre-start protest incident between them. The protest was about not doing penalty as soon as practical possible, the initial indent was not proven, so the protest unsuccessfully.

The afternoon session was a only a little bit stronger but still very variable. The officials were kept busy trying to move the marks set to give a windward beat, but be able to see the finish line to record the results.. It was good racing with the racers finding it very tricky with big shifts.

Going into race 13 the points were still equal between Cliff and Graham while Nigel and Gary were fighting it out for 3rd place too.

The wind increased for the final three races and these races decided the finial placings for the day.

Mega thanks to Ken, Gary and Owen for battling the elements, conditions and us sailors. Without you events like this would just not happen, thanks heaps guys.
