"King for the day" at The Bus Stop.
12 months ago Graham NZL104 came up with this name for a series of races run on King's Birthday Monday. The race management had a quick meeting and decided to do it again today. It was great to see Graham show up and join in for some racing. This was not an official regatta, but a normal fun race day with a name added. What added to it was the 14 skippers who raced - fantastic!
A SW breeze that varied a lot in strength and direction kept skippers thinking on a good gate course set by Nigel 168. After a few races the top marks were kicked to the west for better breeze. Skippers used all four marks at times to deal with strength and shifts, and traffic was another consideration.
Results are attached and KFTD was Pat 39 - Congratulations from us all. Prizes were Whittakers real Gold King Charles peanut slabs and Graham's transmitter disks, both from anonymous donors.
Official racing stopped at race 13 and while the results were being worked on, fun racing continued. Finally there were two RTW's, race 1 went to Graham NZL 104 and race 2 went to Pat 39 - well done.
Lastly we are sorry to hear that we have lost a skipper, Phil Bourne from the Papamoa fleet sadly passed away yesterday after an afternoon sailing his "Electron". RIP fellow sailor.
