Race Officer Report
Seven teams entered the 4 Hours Race, four from GHRYC, two from NMMS and one from Tauranga.
Unfortunately the weather did not play ball there being predictions for the day of heavy rain and strong
northerly winds of over 30 knots. The conditions saw two of the local teams pulling out of the
completion before the start.
Racing commenced on time at 10-30am in strong blustery conditions and rain, skippers changing over
helming the boats every 30 minutes.
The sailing was fast and furious with conditions most of the time the wind at the top of the B Rig range.
Unfortunately Boat the No 85, a V11, helmed by Ian Power and Mike McLachlan, in the lead at the time
having completing forty one laps, had to withdraw due to radio dampness problems at 1300hrs. Boat
No46 a Nighthawk, helmed by John Anderson and Brett May, had rigging problems having completed
forty three laps and withdrew at 1343hrs.
A big congratulations goes to winners, Justin Brosnan and Graham Roberts, from the Tauranga Club, for
a fantastic well sailed race, sailing Justin’s very new K2, Number 76, they sailed seventy laps at an average of
3min 26sec per lap.
They didn’t have it waesy and had to fight off some very stiff and very close competition from second
place getters, Richard and Graeme Guy sailing the V9 No 54, crossing the line having covered the same
number of laps within the time limit, 1 minute 15 seconds behind.
Third place went to Nigel Sibun and crew sailing a V9 No99 completing 68 laps, well done.
Congratulations to the place getters for their effort, commitment, fortitude and determination to see
the race though to completion and we look forward to see you again next year, in hopefully better
conditions and along with a bigger fleet.
