Road Trip Day Ten

Early morning rise, put batteries on charge and leave camp for Lake Pegasus.

Running early so Mac’er for breakfast (and some antifreeze for van) Not from the same place of course…

8am at Lake and helped the boys set up the staging area for the day.

9am and off to briefing in a local cafe.

9.30am back to venue for some racing starting 10.30am

White caps and its only going to get stronger and stronger… C Rig. Big call ?

Everyone else is on B rig.

1st start and I had a blinder until I missed a bottom mark and had to undo the mistake and re-round it. 4th in the first race, great start to the day and a keeper :)

This is only the 2nd regatta where I have raced on a C rig.. Once many, many years ago in Kerikeri. And I have watched a few races one day at the Waikato Champs. A lot of fun so race with however tacking in the wave can be challenging if you mistime it.

As forecast the wind got stronger and stronger and slowly one by one the fleet all came and joined me on C rigs by late afternoon. It was a funny breeze. Not solid C Rig everywhere. It had 50 metre holes in sections and if you were unlucky to time one on the downwind the front marker sailed away while you wallowed down the run. Sailors behind caught you by the bottom mark. These became less and less and it got stronger and stronger.

Ps Today I was wore every warm thing I brought down South today…

3pm and the temperature increase rapidly. Out came the jangle, shorts and tee shirt. The wind change around 90 degree and everyone rushed for there A rigs. I was up next so I decided to sailed B rig then changed up to A rig for the last race of the day.

5pm we had dinner at the local and today's prize giving,

I am waiting to see my results from today.

I hear I got 4th equal which is great start down here. Everyone down here knows what they are doing.

This is day one of three one day regattas.

Tomorrows forecast lighter which I am looking forward too.

Then maybe no wind Sunday?

A great dinner, back to camp and write this report,

and now time for some sleep before repeating again tomorrow.

Happy sailing back home in Tauranga tomorrow. Remember standard sailing at the Jetty.
