Super congrats to the Tauranga Sailing Team – what an amazing and decisive performance!
1st, 2nd, and 3rd at the New Zealand DF65 Nationals
Gary Dix, Nigel, and John R – WOW, WOW, WOW !!!
To everyone who entered – a mega thank you!
A month ago, we were about to call it off with just one entry. Thank you for stepping up and giving national-level sailing a go. I hope you all enjoyed it and learned heaps from the jump up from club events – the nerves, butterflies, intensity, and strategy. When you head back to your home clubs, you’ll be able to share what you’ve learned – from starts, rules, and risk management to those all-important DF65 mark-rounding tricks (never shoot the mark, etc.).
Another massive thank you to everyone who helped make this event happen – without you, we couldn’t have pulled off such a great Easter weekend. It’s really appreciated – thank you heaps!
To the Weather / Wind Gods — we salute you!
Thank you for your divine grace in gifting us a perfect Tauranga Easter weekend. After making us sail in absolute rubbish for the past month, you saved the very best session for the Nationals. The wind direction and strength were chef’s kiss — ideal for the DF65 Class, close to shore and right on the edge (and sometimes over) of A+ conditions. By the sound of the rain hammering down outside right now, I’m guessing we’ll be paying for this blessing for quite some time 😄
Today, the Tauranga Lake looks a bit bare but don’t panic!
Nigel and I launch the big boat again and we will take the DF65 marks back up to the Bus Stop by 12 o’clock, and we’ll have a course set up by 12:30 for DF65 Monday at the Bus Stop.
Before 1pm, we’ll also have the IOM buoys set up for the POP IOM session at the Jetty from 1pm to 4pm today. (IOM's sorry you missed your Saturday session, and thanks again for letting us use the Jetty all weekend!)
To everyone – come join the fun today!
Hope to see you this afternoon at one of our fun sailing club sessions 😊
ps Please look after our Wet Council Parks and not cut them up today, thanks
