NOTICE OF RACE

1 ORGANIZING AUTHORITY

This regatta is organised under the overall authority of the Tauranga radio sailing club and it’s duly appointed Race Committee.

2 RULES

2.0 The Concept of this regatta to is encourage participation and enjoyment for sailors of all abilities.

2.1 This regatta will be run under the Tauranga Simplified Rules (see details on Tauranga Website)

2.2 The following documents will apply: This Notice of Race (NOR), the event’s Sailing the Equipment Rules of Sailing (ERS), Tauranga Simplified Rules, and radio yachting rules.

2.3 The current Heat Management System (HMS) will apply in the event that multiple fleets are utilized.

2.4 The following Racing Rules will be changed:

E3.1: The control area will be defined on the course board.

E3.2: Launching area will be specified on the course board

E3.3: The course will be displayed on a course Board.

E3.6: Following a general recall, Rule 30.1 shall apply to the restart. For subsequent general recalls Rules 30.1, 30.3 or 30.4 may apply.

E3.8(c): Courses may be shortened.

E3.1(a): The race committee may appoint Observers, who may be competitors.

E6.4: Add “but prior to the preparatory signal for the next heat or race.”

3 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

3.1 The competition is open to anybody with a DF65 that complies with the fundamental NZ class rules.

3.2 The following class will be sailed: DF65 with A rig or smaller (No A Plus Rigs at this regatta)

3.3 Sailors who are in good standing with the Tauranga Radio Sailing Club

3.4 Eligible boats may enter by completing the entry form and sending it to Tauranga Radio Sailing club.

4 EVENT SCHEDULE

4.1 Racing Times:

All times are local time as available on local mobile phone services.

26th September 2022

Measurement and inspection: From 10.30hrs to 1045hrs

Briefing commences: 10.45hrs

Warning signal for first race: 1100hrs

Racing concludes: No heat will commence after 1600hrs

4.1 Results

Result giving will commence as soon as possible after the last race.

4.2 The warning signal for the next race/heat shall occur as soon as practical following the previous race/heat.

4.3 A break for lunch may be included at the discretion of the RO. Lunch will be taken at a time to best fit in with the racing. There are no toilets provided so either travel during your lunch break, or use one of your drop races should nature call. No Lunches or food will not be provided at this event. Bring your own food, drink and warm clothes.

5 MEASUREMENT

Please bring Legal DF65.. No modifications other than as allowed on the NZ DF65 website

6 FREQUENCIES

For frequency bands other than 2.4 Ghz, each competitor shall nominate a minimum of three (3) frequencies with their entry. Permitted frequency bands are 27, 29, 36, 40 Mhz and 2.4 Ghz.

7 PERSONAL SAIL NUMBERS

7.1 Authorised personal numbers shall take preference over other conflicting sail numbers providing the TRSC has received your entry seven days prior to this regatta.

8 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

No Sailing instruction, only this Notice of Race.

9 VENUE

The event will be sailed at The Lakes Tauriko Bus Stop

10 COURSES

Where possible, the course will comprise a first leg and a finish leg to windward. The course will generally be a windward / leeward course. The Race Committee will attempt to set a course which will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes for the first boat to complete. This Venue is difficult to sometimes achieve the above, so Race Officers digression on the day will prevail.

11 PENALTY SYSTEM AND PROTESTS

11.1 RRS 44.1 is amended by E4.3: Taking a Penalty.

11.2 The Arbitration System for Protest Hearings will be used.

11.3 A Protest Committee will be appointed to hear any protests arising from the event and may comprise competitors not involved in the incident. RRS 61.2 and 62.2 may be replaced by a verbal notification and hearing if all parties affected by the incident agree.

11.4 Decisions of the protest committee will be final as provided in RRS 70.5.

12 SCORING

The scoring system is as follows:

a. For single heat racing the RRS A4 will apply.

b. For multi-fleet racing RRS A4 as amended by HMS shall apply.

13 CONDUCT

All Competitors must adhere to the Tauranga radio Sailing clubs Code of Conduct. Behaviour by a competitor that is in breach of good manners or Sportsmanship and Fair Play or which may bring the sport into disrepute shall result in a hearing in accordance with RRS 2 or RRS69.1 or the RO may offer a competitor a two turns on the spot penalty to avoid going to protest. However, the RO is not obliged to make this offer, nor is a competitor obliged to accept it in which case a protest hearing shall proceed.

14 Risk Statement

Sailing is by its nature an unpredictable sport and therefore involves an element of risk. By taking part in any of the events covered by this notice of race, each competitor agrees and acknowledges that: a. They are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the sport and accept responsibility for the exposure of themselves and their boat to such inherent risk whilst taking part in the event; b. They are responsible for the safety of themselves, their boat and their other property whether afloat or ashore; c. The provision of a race management team, patrol boats, umpires and other officials and volunteers by the organiser does not relieve them of their own responsibilities; d. The provision of patrol boat cover is limited to such assistance, particularly in extreme weather conditions, as can be practically provided in the circumstances. A competitor may only enter the event by accepting these conditions as they appear on the entry form.
